Beef Fried Rice

Posted on January 16, 2025

Beef Fried Rice is a delicious, quick, and flavorful dish that’s perfect for using up leftover rice. The tender beef, combined with vegetables and a savory soy-based sauce, makes for a satisfying meal. Here’s a simple and tasty recipe for Beef Fried Rice!

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb beef (flank steak, sirloin, or any tender cut), thinly sliced against the grain
  • 4 cups cooked rice (preferably day-old rice for best texture)
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil (divided)
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 1 cup frozen peas and carrots (or fresh if preferred)
  • 2 eggs, lightly beaten
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce (or more to taste)
  • 1 tbsp oyster sauce (optional for extra umami)
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 2 green onions, sliced (for garnish)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions:

1. Prepare the Beef:

  • Slice the beef thinly against the grain. You can marinate the beef in a little soy sauce, sesame oil, and pepper for 10-15 minutes for extra flavor, but this step is optional.

2. Scramble the Eggs:

  • Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Once hot, pour in the beaten eggs and scramble them until fully cooked (about 2-3 minutes). Remove the eggs from the pan and set them aside.

3. Cook the Beef:

  • In the same skillet, add the remaining 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil. Add the thinly sliced beef to the pan and cook until browned and cooked through (about 3-4 minutes). Remove the beef from the pan and set it aside with the eggs.

4. Sauté the Vegetables:

  • Add the diced onion and garlic to the skillet, and cook for 2-3 minutes until the onion becomes soft and translucent.
  • Add the frozen peas and carrots to the pan and cook for another 2-3 minutes, or until heated through.

5. Fry the Rice:

  • Add the cooked rice to the skillet. Use a spatula to break up any clumps of rice and ensure it’s evenly mixed with the vegetables.
  • Drizzle the soy sauce, oyster sauce (if using), and sesame oil over the rice. Stir well to combine and heat the rice through. You can add more soy sauce if you like your fried rice a bit saltier.

6. Add Beef and Eggs:

  • Once the rice is heated and evenly coated in the sauces, add the cooked beef and scrambled eggs back into the pan. Stir everything together until well combined.

7. Garnish and Serve:

  • Taste the fried rice and adjust seasoning with salt, pepper, or more soy sauce if needed.
  • Garnish with sliced green onions before serving.

Tips:

  • Rice Texture: For the best fried rice, use day-old rice that has been chilled in the fridge. Fresh rice can be too soft and sticky, while cold rice holds up better during frying.
  • Add More Veggies: Feel free to add other vegetables like bell peppers, corn, or mushrooms.
  • For Extra Flavor: You can add a dash of hot sauce or chili flakes if you like a little spice in your fried rice.
  • Protein Alternatives: This recipe works well with chicken, pork, shrimp, or tofu if you prefer different proteins.

Enjoy!

This Beef Fried Rice is a quick and delicious meal that’s full of flavor. The savory beef, the sweetness of the vegetables, and the savory sauce come together perfectly for a comforting and satisfying dish.
