Here’s a recipe for Sizzling Chinese Pepper Steak with Onions—a flavorful and sizzling dish with tender beef, vibrant bell peppers, onions, and a savory sauce!

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb flank steak (or sirloin steak), thinly sliced against the grain
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil (for stir-frying)
  • 1 large onion, sliced into thin rings
  • 1 red bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 1 green bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 3-4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons ginger, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
  • 1/4 cup beef broth or water
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper (or more, depending on heat preference)
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional, for added heat)
  • 1-2 teaspoons sesame oil (optional, for garnish)
  • Green onions or sesame seeds (for garnish, optional)

Instructions:

  1. Marinate the steak:
    • In a bowl, combine the sliced steak with 2 tablespoons soy sauce and 1 tablespoon cornstarch. Toss the steak slices to coat evenly and set aside for about 15-20 minutes to marinate.
  2. Prepare the sauce:
    • In a small bowl, whisk together the oyster sauce, soy sauce, rice vinegar, hoisin sauce, beef broth (or water), black pepper, and red pepper flakes. Set aside.
  3. Cook the steak:
    • Heat a wok or large skillet over high heat and add 1 tablespoon vegetable oil. Add the marinated steak to the hot pan in a single layer (you may need to do this in batches to avoid overcrowding) and cook for 1-2 minutes, until the steak is browned but not fully cooked through. Remove the steak from the pan and set it aside.
  4. Stir-fry the vegetables:
    • In the same wok or skillet, add the sliced onion, red bell pepper, and green bell pepper. Stir-fry over high heat for 2-3 minutes, until the vegetables are tender-crisp.
    • Add the minced garlic and ginger and stir-fry for another 30 seconds until fragrant.
  5. Combine steak and sauce:
    • Return the cooked steak to the pan with the vegetables. Pour the sauce over the mixture and stir to coat. Cook for an additional 1-2 minutes until the sauce thickens and the steak is fully cooked.
  6. Serve:
    • Drizzle a little sesame oil over the stir-fry (optional) and garnish with chopped green onions or sesame seeds if desired.
    • Serve the sizzling pepper steak with steamed rice or noodles for a complete meal.
