Here’s a delicious and classic breakfast idea using Bacon, Eggs, and Grits. These three ingredients come together to make a satisfying, hearty, and flavorful meal that’s perfect for starting the day.

Bacon, Eggs, and Grits Breakfast

Ingredients:

For the Grits:

  • 1 cup stone-ground grits (or quick grits, based on preference)
  • 4 cups water or chicken broth (for extra flavor)
  • 1/2 cup milk (or cream, for creamier grits)
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional: 1/4 cup shredded cheese (cheddar or Parmesan) for cheesy grits

For the Bacon and Eggs:

  • 4 slices of bacon
  • 2-4 eggs (depending on how many servings)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional: Fresh herbs (like parsley or chives) for garnish

Instructions:

1. Prepare the Grits:

  • In a medium pot, bring the water (or chicken broth) to a boil.
  • Stir in the grits and reduce the heat to low. Simmer for about 20-25 minutes for stone-ground grits (or follow package instructions for quick grits), stirring occasionally until the grits are tender and creamy.
  • Stir in the butter and milk, and season with salt and pepper to taste. If you’re making cheesy grits, add the shredded cheese at this point and stir until melted and smooth.

2. Cook the Bacon:

  • While the grits are cooking, heat a large skillet over medium heat and add the bacon slices. Cook the bacon, turning occasionally, until crispy and browned, about 5-7 minutes.
  • Remove the bacon from the skillet and set it on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess grease.

3. Cook the Eggs:

  • In the same skillet, remove some of the bacon grease (or leave a bit for flavor). You can either scramble the eggs or fry them to your liking.
  • For scrambled eggs: Crack the eggs into a bowl, whisk, and pour into the skillet. Stir gently over medium-low heat until they’re cooked to your desired doneness.
  • For fried eggs: Crack the eggs into the skillet and cook over medium heat until the whites are set but the yolks remain runny (or cook longer if you prefer them fully cooked).

4. Assemble the Plate:

  • Spoon a generous portion of grits onto each plate.
  • Place the cooked eggs next to the grits, and top with crispy bacon.
  • Garnish with fresh herbs if desired.

5. Serve and Enjoy:

  • Serve with hot sauce or a side of toast if you like, and enjoy your classic Bacon, Eggs, and Grits breakfast!

Tips:

  • You can make your grits extra flavorful by cooking them in milk or cream instead of water for a richer texture.
  • Add extras to the grits like sautéed onions, garlic, or even a sprinkle of crumbled bacon for more flavor.
