Bread Rolls Recipe-

Making bread rolls from scratch is a rewarding and delicious process! Here’s a simple recipe for soft, fluffy bread rolls:

Soft Bread Rolls Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet (2 ¼ tsp) active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm milk (110°F/45°C)
  • ¼ cup sugar
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted (plus extra for brushing)
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 large egg (for the dough)
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil (for greasing)
  • 1 egg (for egg wash, optional)

Instructions:

  1. Activate the yeast:
    • In a small bowl, combine the warm milk and sugar. Sprinkle the yeast over the top and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy and bubbly. This ensures the yeast is active.
  2. Mix the dough:
    • In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Create a well in the center.
    • Pour the frothy yeast mixture, melted butter, and the egg into the well.
    • Stir until the dough begins to come together, then knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 8-10 minutes, or until it’s smooth and elastic.
  3. First rise:
    • Lightly grease a clean bowl with vegetable oil and place the dough inside, turning it to coat it with oil. Cover with a clean kitchen towel or plastic wrap.
    • Let the dough rise in a warm place for about 1-1.5 hours, or until it doubles in size.
  4. Shape the rolls:
    • Punch the dough down to release air bubbles, then divide it into 12 even pieces (or more/less depending on your preferred size).
    • Roll each piece into a smooth ball and place them in a greased 9×13-inch baking dish, leaving a little space between each roll.
  5. Second rise:
    • Cover the pan with a towel and let the rolls rise for about 30 minutes, or until they have puffed up and are touching each other.
  6. Bake:
    • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
    • If you’d like, beat the second egg and brush it over the top of the rolls for a golden, glossy finish.
    • Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the tops are golden brown and the rolls sound hollow when tapped on the bottom.
  7. Finish:
    • Once the rolls are done, remove them from the oven and immediately brush the tops with a little melted butter for extra flavor and softness.
    • Let them cool slightly before serving.

Serve:

  • Enjoy your freshly baked bread rolls with butter, or as a side to any meal. They’re perfect for soups, salads, or just as a snack on their own!
