Garlic Butter Steak Bites and Mash

Posted on January 12, 2025

Garlic Butter Steak Bites and Mash is a delicious, savory dish that combines tender steak pieces with a rich garlic butter sauce, paired with creamy mashed potatoes. Here’s a simple recipe for this hearty meal:

Ingredients:

For the Steak Bites:

  • 1 lb (450g) sirloin steak or ribeye, cut into bite-sized cubes
  • 3 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 4 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tbsp fresh thyme or 1 tsp dried thyme
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)

For the Mashed Potatoes:

  • 2 lbs (900g) russet potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup whole milk (or cream for a richer mash)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/4 cup sour cream (optional, for extra creaminess)

Instructions:

For the Steak Bites:

  1. Prep the Steak: Season the steak cubes with salt and pepper.
  2. Cook the Steak: Heat 2 tablespoons of butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Once melted, add the steak cubes and sear for 3-4 minutes, flipping occasionally, until they reach your desired level of doneness. Remove the steak bites from the pan and set aside.
  3. Make the Garlic Butter: In the same skillet, melt the remaining 1 tablespoon of butter. Add the minced garlic and thyme, sautéing for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
  4. Combine: Return the steak bites to the pan and toss to coat in the garlic butter. Cook for another 2-3 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together. Garnish with chopped parsley if desired.

For the Mashed Potatoes:

  1. Boil the Potatoes: Place the peeled and cubed potatoes in a large pot of salted water. Bring to a boil and cook for 15-20 minutes, or until the potatoes are fork-tender.
  2. Mash the Potatoes: Drain the potatoes and return them to the pot. Add butter, milk, salt, and pepper. Mash until smooth and creamy. Stir in sour cream if you like for extra richness.
  3. Serve: Spoon the mashed potatoes onto plates and top with the garlic butter steak bites.

Tips:

  • Feel free to add some parmesan cheese or roasted garlic to the mashed potatoes for extra flavor.
  • For a lighter version, you can use olive oil instead of butter for cooking the steak bites.

This meal is perfect for a comforting weeknight dinner or a special occasion!
