Cajun Salmon and Shrimp Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 2 salmon fillets (about 6 oz each)
  • 12-16 large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 2 tbsp olive oil (divided)
  • 1 tbsp Cajun seasoning (store-bought or homemade – recipe below)
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp onion powder
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice (plus wedges for serving)
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Optional Cajun Seasoning (if you prefer homemade):

  • 1 tbsp paprika
  • 1 tbsp onion powder
  • 1 tbsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp thyme
  • 1 tsp oregano
  • ½ tsp cayenne pepper (adjust for heat)
  • ½ tsp smoked paprika
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the seasoning:
    • In a small bowl, mix together the Cajun seasoning, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. If you’re using homemade Cajun seasoning, combine all the spices and herbs listed above.
  2. Season the seafood:
    • Pat the salmon fillets and shrimp dry with paper towels. Rub the seasoning mixture all over both sides of the salmon fillets and shrimp.
  3. Cook the salmon:
    • Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the salmon fillets, skin-side down (if the skin is on). Cook for 4-5 minutes per side, until the salmon is golden on the outside and cooked through (the internal temperature should reach 145°F, or it should easily flake with a fork). Remove the salmon from the skillet and set it aside.
  4. Cook the shrimp:
    • In the same skillet, add the remaining tablespoon of olive oil. Add the shrimp and cook for 2-3 minutes per side, until they turn pink and are cooked through. Be careful not to overcook them.
  5. Finish the dish:
    • Once the shrimp is done, add the cooked salmon back into the skillet (if there’s room). Drizzle with lemon juice and let everything simmer for an additional minute or so, just to combine the flavors.
  6. Serve:
    • Plate the salmon fillets with the shrimp on the side, and garnish with freshly chopped parsley and additional lemon wedges.

Tips:

  • Side dishes: This Cajun Salmon and Shrimp dish pairs beautifully with rice (like Cajun rice, jasmine, or brown rice), roasted vegetables, or a crisp green salad.
  • Heat level: Adjust the amount of cayenne pepper or homemade Cajun seasoning to control the heat to your liking.
  • Grilling option: You can grill both the salmon and shrimp for an extra smoky flavor. Just be sure to oil the grill grates to prevent sticking.

This Cajun Salmon and Shrimp is packed with bold flavors and the perfect balance of heat and smokiness. It’s a quick, satisfying dish that’s sure to impress! Enjoy!
