Apple Crisp is a classic dessert that combines tender baked apples with a sweet, buttery crumb topping. It’s warm, comforting, and perfect for any occasion, especially when paired with a scoop of vanilla ice cream! Here’s a simple and delicious recipe for making it:

Ingredients:

For the filling:

  • 6-8 medium apples (such as Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or a mix)
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tbsp all-purpose flour (optional, for thickening)

For the topping:

  • 1 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup packed brown sugar
  • ½ tsp ground cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, cold and cut into small cubes

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×9-inch baking dish or similar size with butter or non-stick spray.
  2. Prepare the apples: Peel, core, and slice the apples into thin wedges (about 1/4-inch thick). Place the sliced apples into a large bowl and toss them with the granulated sugar, cinnamon, lemon juice, and flour (if using). Transfer the apple mixture to the prepared baking dish, spreading it evenly.
  3. Make the topping: In a separate bowl, combine the oats, flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Add the cold butter cubes and use a pastry cutter, fork, or your fingers to work the butter into the dry ingredients until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Top the apples: Evenly sprinkle the oat mixture over the apples, covering them as much as possible.
  5. Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for about 40-45 minutes, or until the apples are tender and the topping is golden brown and crisp. You may want to check it around the 30-minute mark and cover the dish loosely with foil if the topping is getting too dark.
  6. Serve: Allow the apple crisp to cool slightly before serving. It’s delicious on its own or with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream.
