Ribeye steak

Posted on September 24, 2025

You’re in for a treat β€” a perfectly cooked ribeye steak is juicy, flavorful, and packed with buttery marbling. Whether you’re using a skillet, grill, or oven, here’s how to make a restaurant-quality ribeye at home.

πŸ₯© Perfect Ribeye Steak Recipe

🍽️ Serves: 2

⏱️ Prep Time: 10 min | Cook Time: 10–15 min | Rest Time: 5 min

πŸ“ Ingredients:

  • 1 or 2 ribeye steaks, 1 to 1.5 inches thick (bone-in or boneless)

  • Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper

  • 1–2 tbsp olive oil

  • 2 tbsp butter

  • 2–3 cloves garlic, smashed

  • 2–3 sprigs fresh rosemary or thyme (optional)

πŸ”₯ How to Cook Ribeye (Stovetop + Baste Method):

1. Bring to Room Temp:

  • Let the steak sit out for 30–45 minutes before cooking.

  • Pat dry with paper towels β€” dry surface = better sear.

2. Season Well:

  • Generously season both sides with kosher salt and black pepper.

  • You can add garlic powder or steak seasoning if desired, but ribeye shines with just salt & pepper.

3. Preheat Your Pan:

  • Use a cast iron skillet or heavy-bottomed pan.

  • Heat until very hot (it should smoke slightly).

  • Add olive oil and swirl to coat.

4. Sear the Steak:

  • Add steak and sear for 3–4 minutes per side, depending on thickness.

  • Flip only once for a proper crust.

5. Baste with Butter:

  • Add butter, garlic, and herbs to the pan.

  • Tilt the pan and spoon the melted butter over the steak repeatedly for 1–2 minutes.

  • This enhances flavor and keeps it juicy.

6. Check for Doneness:

Use a meat thermometer for best results:

  • Rare: 125Β°F (cool red center)

  • Medium-rare: 130–135Β°F

  • Medium: 140–145Β°F

  • Medium-well: 150–155Β°F

  • Well-done: 160Β°F+

(Temps will rise about 5Β°F while resting.)

7. Rest Before Serving:

  • Transfer steak to a plate or cutting board.

  • Let rest for 5–10 minutes to lock in juices.

🧈 Optional Steak Butter Topping:

Mix softened butter with chopped parsley, garlic, and a pinch of salt for a quick herb butter to melt on top before serving.

🍽️ Serving Ideas:

  • Sides: Garlic mashed potatoes, roasted asparagus, creamed spinach, grilled corn

  • Sauces: Chimichurri, peppercorn sauce, horseradish cream, or creamy garlic sauce

  • Drinks: Bold red wine (Cabernet Sauvignon), dark beer, or a classic old-fashioned

πŸ₯© Grill Option:

  • Preheat grill to high.

  • Sear each side for 3–4 minutes, then move to indirect heat and cook to desired doneness.

  • Let rest, slice, and enjoy!
