Ooooh, fresh cream donuts — soft, fluffy, and filled with sweet cream! Here’s a simple recipe to make those delicious cream-filled donuts at home.
Fresh Cream Donuts
Ingredients:
For the donuts:
-
2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
-
2 ¼ tsp active dry yeast (1 packet)
-
½ cup warm milk (about 110°F / 43°C)
-
¼ cup sugar
-
¼ tsp salt
-
2 tbsp unsalted butter, softened
-
2 large eggs
-
Oil for frying (vegetable or canola oil)
For the fresh cream filling:
-
1 cup heavy cream, cold
-
2 tbsp powdered sugar
-
1 tsp vanilla extract
For dusting:
-
Powdered sugar or granulated sugar
Instructions:
-
Activate yeast:
In a small bowl, mix warm milk and yeast with a pinch of sugar. Let it sit 5-10 minutes until foamy. -
Make the dough:
In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, and salt. Add eggs, butter, and the yeast mixture. Mix and knead (by hand or mixer) until smooth and elastic — about 8-10 minutes. -
First rise:
Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1 to 1.5 hours. -
Shape the donuts:
Roll out the dough on a floured surface to about ½ inch (1.2 cm) thickness. Cut out circles with a donut cutter or two different sized round cutters (or a glass and a bottle cap). -
Second rise:
Place the cut dough circles on a floured tray, cover with a cloth, and let them rise another 30-45 minutes until puffed. -
Fry:
Heat oil in a deep pan or fryer to 350°F (175°C). Fry donuts a few at a time, turning once, until golden brown (about 1-2 minutes per side). Drain on paper towels. -
Prepare cream filling:
Whip the cold heavy cream with powdered sugar and vanilla until stiff peaks form. -
Fill the donuts:
Once cooled, use a piping bag with a small tip to fill each donut with fresh cream. -
Dust and serve:
Dust donuts with powdered sugar and enjoy fresh!
