Whipped Pudding Frosting

Posted on September 1, 2025

Here’s a light, fluffy, and creamy Whipped Pudding Frosting recipe that’s super easy to make and tastes amazing — perfect for cakes, cupcakes, or even as a dip!

🍮 Whipped Pudding Frosting

Makes: Enough to frost 12 cupcakes or a 2-layer cake

Prep Time: 10 minutes

Chill Time: 1 hour (recommended)

Ingredients:

  • 1 (3.4 oz / 96g) instant pudding mix (any flavor you like — vanilla, chocolate, butterscotch, etc.)

  • 1 cup (240ml) cold milk

  • 1 cup (240ml) heavy whipping cream, cold

  • 2 tbsp powdered sugar (optional, for extra sweetness)

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Make the Pudding:

    • In a medium bowl, whisk together the instant pudding mix and cold milk until thickened (about 2 minutes). Set aside.

  2. Whip the Cream:

    • In a large mixing bowl, beat the cold heavy cream with an electric mixer until it starts to thicken.

    • Add powdered sugar and vanilla extract if using, then continue beating until soft peaks form.

  3. Combine:

    • Gently fold the prepared pudding into the whipped cream until fully combined and smooth. Be careful not to deflate the mixture.

  4. Chill:

    • Refrigerate the frosting for at least 1 hour to set up and get nice and fluffy.

  5. Frost:

    • Use immediately to frost cakes, cupcakes, or as a dip for fruit.

Tips:

  • Use a pudding flavor that complements your cake or dessert.

  • If you want a thicker frosting, reduce the milk to 3/4 cup when making pudding.

  • For a dairy-free version, try coconut milk pudding mix and coconut whipped cream!
