๐Ÿฝ๏ธ Salisbury Steak with Mashed Potatoes and Mushroom Gravy

๐Ÿฝ๏ธ Serves: 4

โฑ๏ธ Total Time: ~45 minutes

๐Ÿ“‹ Ingredients:

๐Ÿ”ธ For the Salisbury Steak:

  • 1 lb ground beef (80/20 for juiciness)

  • 1/4 cup bread crumbs

  • 1/4 cup milk

  • 1 small onion, finely chopped

  • 1 egg

  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

  • 1 tsp garlic powder

  • 1 tsp onion powder

  • Salt & pepper to taste

  • 1 tbsp olive oil (for cooking)

๐Ÿ”ธ For the Mushroom Gravy:

  • 2 tbsp butter

  • 1 tbsp all-purpose flour

  • 1 cup beef broth

  • 1/2 cup heavy cream (or milk for a lighter version)

  • 1 cup mushrooms, sliced

  • 1 small onion, finely chopped

  • Salt & pepper to taste

  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce (optional, for depth of flavor)

๐Ÿ”ธ For the Mashed Potatoes:

  • 4 large russet potatoes, peeled and cut into chunks

  • 4 tbsp butter

  • 1/2 cup milk (more for creaminess, if needed)

  • Salt and pepper to taste

  • 1/4 cup sour cream (optional for extra creaminess)

๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿณ Instructions:

๐Ÿ”ธ 1. Prepare the Mashed Potatoes:

  • In a large pot, bring potatoes to a boil in salted water. Cook for 12โ€“15 minutes or until tender when pierced with a fork.

  • Drain and return to the pot. Add butter, milk, sour cream (if using), and salt and pepper. Mash until smooth and creamy. Set aside, keeping warm.

๐Ÿ”ธ 2. Make the Salisbury Steaks:

  • In a large bowl, combine ground beef, bread crumbs, milk, egg, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mix until just combined, being careful not to overwork the meat.

  • Shape the mixture into 4 oval patties.

  • Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Cook the patties for 4โ€“5 minutes per side until browned and cooked through. Remove the patties and set aside.

๐Ÿ”ธ 3. Make the Mushroom Gravy:

  • In the same skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Add onion and mushrooms, cooking until softened and golden, about 5โ€“7 minutes.

  • Stir in flour and cook for 1 minute to form a roux.

  • Gradually whisk in beef broth, followed by heavy cream. Stir until smooth and bring to a simmer. Let cook for 3โ€“4 minutes until the gravy thickens.

  • Stir in Worcestershire sauce, and season with salt and pepper to taste.

๐Ÿ”ธ 4. Combine the Steaks and Gravy:

  • Return the cooked Salisbury steaks to the skillet with the gravy. Spoon the gravy over the patties and simmer for another 5โ€“7 minutes, until the steaks are heated through and coated in the rich mushroom gravy.

๐Ÿ”ธ 5. Serve:

  • Serve the Salisbury steaks with a generous helping of mashed potatoes and a drizzle of mushroom gravy over the top.

๐ŸงŠ Storage:

  • Fridge: Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days.

  • Freezer: Freeze the Salisbury steaks and gravy separately for up to 2 months. Reheat in the microwave or on the stovetop.

๐Ÿ”„ Variations:

  • Add veggies: You can sautรฉ peas, carrots, or green beans in the skillet and serve them alongside.

  • Swap ground beef: Use ground turkey or ground chicken for a lighter version.

  • Extra creamy potatoes: Stir in more butter or cream cheese for an extra rich mashed potato side.
