Ground Beef and Gravy

Posted on August 8, 2025

Here’s a simple and hearty Ground Beef and Gravy recipe — a classic comfort dish that’s fast, affordable, and goes great over mashed potatoes, rice, or egg noodles.

Ground Beef and Gravy

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb ground beef

  • 1 small onion, finely chopped (optional)

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced (optional)

  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour

  • 2 cups beef broth

  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

  • ½ tsp onion powder

  • ½ tsp garlic powder

  • Salt and pepper, to taste

  • 1 tbsp oil or butter (if using onion/garlic)

  • Optional: ½ cup heavy cream or sour cream for creamier gravy

Instructions:

  1. Brown the Beef:

    • In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until fully browned.

    • If using onion/garlic, sauté them in 1 tbsp oil or butter for 2–3 minutes before adding the beef.

    • Drain excess grease.

  2. Add Seasoning and Flour:

    • Sprinkle flour over the cooked beef and stir well to coat. Let it cook for 1 minute to remove the raw flour taste.

  3. Make the Gravy:

    • Slowly pour in the beef broth while stirring to avoid lumps.

    • Add Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.

    • Simmer for 5–8 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the gravy thickens.

  4. Optional Creamy Version:

    • Stir in heavy cream or sour cream for a rich, creamy gravy.

  5. Serve:

    • Serve hot over mashed potatoes, egg noodles, rice, or toast.

Quick Tips:

  • Want veggies? Add frozen peas, carrots, or mushrooms when the gravy simmers.

  • No broth? Use bouillon + water (1 cube or 1 tsp base per 1 cup water).

  • Make it in bulk and freeze for easy meals later.
