Street Tacos de Carne Asada

Posted on August 1, 2025

Here’s a bold, flavorful, and authentic recipe for Street Tacos de Carne Asada — just like you’d find at a Mexican street cart. Grilled beef, simple toppings, and warm corn tortillas make this a go-to favorite.

🌮 Street Tacos de Carne Asada (Mexican Grilled Beef Tacos)

Ingredients (Makes 8–10 tacos):

For the Carne Asada:
  • 1½ lbs (680 g) flank or skirt steak

  • 1/4 cup orange juice (fresh is best)

  • 1/4 cup lime juice (about 2 limes)

  • 2 tbsp olive oil

  • 4 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 tsp ground cumin

  • 1 tsp chili powder

  • 1 tsp paprika

  • Salt & pepper to taste

  • 1/4 cup chopped cilantro

  • Optional: 1 tbsp soy sauce or beer for extra umami

For Serving:
  • 8–10 small corn tortillas, warmed

  • 1/2 cup white onion, finely chopped

  • 1/2 cup fresh cilantro, chopped

  • Lime wedges

  • Optional toppings: salsa verde, guacamole, radishes, jalapeños, cotija cheese

🔥 Instructions:

1. Marinate the Meat:

  1. In a bowl or resealable bag, combine all marinade ingredients.

  2. Add the steak and marinate in the fridge for at least 1 hour, or up to 8 hours for more flavor.

  3. Remove from fridge 30 minutes before cooking to bring to room temp.

2. Grill the Steak:

  • Heat a grill or cast iron pan over high heat.

  • Cook steak for 4–5 minutes per side for medium-rare, depending on thickness.

  • Let rest for 5–10 minutes, then slice thinly against the grain, and chop into small bite-size pieces (traditional for street tacos).

3. Warm the Tortillas:

  • Heat tortillas on a hot dry skillet or directly over a gas flame until soft and slightly charred (about 30 seconds per side).

4. Assemble Tacos:

  • Place a few spoonfuls of carne asada in each tortilla.

  • Top with chopped onion, cilantro, and a squeeze of fresh lime.

  • Add salsa, guac, or your favorite extras if desired.

🌶️ Pro Tips:

  • Flank steak is lean and flavorful — just don’t overcook it.

  • Use fresh lime and cilantro — they’re essential to street taco flavor.

  • Always chop the meat small for easy eating, street-taco style.
