Italian Stromboli

Here’s a classic, crowd-pleasing recipe for Italian Stromboli — a rolled, baked pizza-style loaf stuffed with deli meats, cheese, and Italian seasonings. Crispy on the outside, melty on the inside. Perfect for game day, dinner, or slicing into party appetizers!


🇮🇹 Italian Stromboli Recipe

🥖 Ingredients:

  • 1 pizza dough (store-bought or homemade, about 1 lb)

  • 1/4 cup pizza sauce or marinara (optional, for spreading or serving)

  • 6 slices Genoa salami

  • 6 slices capicola or ham

  • 6 slices pepperoni or soppressata

  • 1 ½ cups shredded mozzarella or sliced provolone

  • 1/2 teaspoon Italian seasoning

  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)

  • Optional: grated Parmesan, red pepper flakes, or fresh basil


🔥 Instructions:

1. Preheat Oven:

  • Preheat to 400°F (200°C).

  • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it.

2. Roll Out Dough:

  • On a lightly floured surface, roll dough into a rectangle, roughly 10×14 inches.

3. Layer the Fillings:

  • Optional: Spread a very thin layer of pizza sauce (too much will make it soggy).

  • Evenly layer meats, then cheese, leaving a 1-inch border all around.

  • Sprinkle with Italian seasoning or red pepper flakes if desired.

4. Roll It Up:

  • Starting from one long edge, tightly roll the dough like a jelly roll.

  • Pinch the seam and ends to seal, and place seam-side down on the baking sheet.

5. Score & Brush:

  • Brush the top with beaten egg for shine and color.

  • Score 3–4 shallow slits on top to allow steam to escape.

6. Bake:

  • Bake for 20–25 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through.

  • Let cool for 5–10 minutes before slicing.


🍽️ Serve With:

  • Warm marinara or pizza sauce on the side for dipping

  • A crisp Caesar salad or roasted veggies


🧀 Variations:

  • Swap meats: try turkey, prosciutto, or cooked sausage.

  • Add extras: sautéed spinach, mushrooms, roasted peppers, or olives.

  • Make it spicy: use hot capicola or pepper jack cheese.
