Air Fryer Tuna Melt

Posted on July 27, 2025
Here’s a quick, melty, and crispy Air Fryer Tuna Melt recipe — packed with flavor and done in under 15 minutes. It’s the perfect combo of creamy tuna salad, gooey cheese, and toasted bread with way less mess than stovetop frying.

🐟 Air Fryer Tuna Melt

🧂 Ingredients (Makes 2–3 sandwiches):

  • 1 can (5–6 oz) tuna, drained

  • 2 tbsp mayonnaise (add more to taste)

  • 1 tsp Dijon mustard (optional, for tang)

  • 1 tbsp finely diced red onion (optional)

  • 1 tbsp relish or chopped pickles (optional)

  • Salt & black pepper, to taste

  • 4–6 slices of bread (sourdough, rye, or whole wheat work great)

  • 1–1½ cups shredded or sliced cheese (cheddar, Swiss, provolone, or American)

  • Softened butter or mayonnaise (for spreading on bread)

🍳 Instructions:

  1. Make the Tuna Salad:

    • In a bowl, mix tuna, mayo, mustard, onion, relish, salt, and pepper.

    • Adjust creaminess to your liking.

  2. Assemble the Sandwiches:

    • Spread butter or mayo on the outside of each bread slice.

    • On the inside, layer:

      • Cheese

      • A generous spoonful of tuna salad

      • More cheese (optional but recommended for extra meltiness)

      • Top with second slice of bread, buttered side out.

  3. Air Fry:

    • Preheat air fryer to 375°F (190°C) (if your model requires preheating).

    • Place sandwiches in the basket (don’t overcrowd).

    • Air fry for 4–5 minutes, flip carefully, and cook another 3–4 minutes until golden brown and cheese is melted.

  4. Serve:

    • Let sit for 1–2 minutes before slicing.

    • Serve with chips, pickles, or tomato soup.

✅ Tips:

  • Press lightly with a spatula before air frying for a flatter, diner-style melt.

  • Use parchment air fryer liners to keep cheese from dripping into the basket.

  • Want it spicier? Add a dash of hot sauce or a slice of pepper jack cheese.

Want a low-carb version on lettuce wraps or a tuna melt wrap instead? Just say the word!
