Cheesy Baked Asparagus

Posted on July 25, 2025

You got it! Here’s an easy, delicious recipe for Cheesy Baked Asparagus — a simple side dish that’s tender, flavorful, and covered in melty, golden cheese. Perfect with steak, chicken, or even as a low-carb main!

🧀 Cheesy Baked Asparagus

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb fresh asparagus, trimmed

  • 1 tbsp olive oil or melted butter

  • ½ tsp garlic powder (or 2 cloves minced garlic)

  • Salt & pepper, to taste

  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella or provolone (melts beautifully)

  • ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese

  • Optional: red pepper flakes or lemon zest for topping

🔪 Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Lightly grease or line a baking dish or sheet with parchment.

  2. Prep asparagus:

    • Trim woody ends off the asparagus.

    • Place in a single layer in the baking dish.

    • Drizzle with olive oil or butter, and season with garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Toss to coat evenly.

  3. Top with cheese:

    • Sprinkle mozzarella (or provolone) over the asparagus.

    • Add a generous layer of Parmesan on top for flavor and crispness.

  4. Bake uncovered for 12–15 minutes, or until asparagus is tender and cheese is melted and starting to brown.

  5. Optional finish: Broil for 1–2 minutes to get the cheese golden and bubbly.

  6. Serve hot, optionally topped with red pepper flakes, lemon zest, or a squeeze of lemon juice.

💡 Tips:

  • Use thicker asparagus spears so they don’t overcook before the cheese browns.

  • Try gruyère or fontina for an even richer flavor.

  • Pair with grilled meat, pasta, or serve over rice or quinoa for a complete meal.
