Absolutely! Here’s a flavor-packed recipe for Homemade Hamburger, Peppers & Onion Gyros – a tasty twist on the classic Greek street food, using seasoned ground beef and sautéed veggies, wrapped in warm pita with tzatziki and fresh toppings. Super easy and ultra satisfying.


🥙 Homemade Hamburger, Peppers & Onion Gyros

Ingredients:

For the Meat:

  • 1 lb ground beef (80/20 or leaner)

  • 1 tsp garlic powder

  • 1 tsp onion powder

  • 1 tsp oregano (dried)

  • ½ tsp cumin

  • ½ tsp smoked paprika

  • Salt & black pepper to taste

  • Optional: pinch of crushed red pepper or a splash of Worcestershire

For the Peppers & Onions:

  • 1 tbsp olive oil

  • 1 bell pepper (red, yellow, or green), thinly sliced

  • 1 small red or yellow onion, thinly sliced

  • Salt & pepper, to taste

Toppings:

  • 4–6 pita breads (Greek-style or flatbread)

  • Tzatziki sauce (store-bought or homemade – see below)

  • Sliced tomatoes or cherry tomato halves

  • Shredded lettuce or baby spinach

  • Crumbled feta (optional)

  • Fresh parsley or dill for garnish


Instructions:

  1. Cook the ground beef:

    • In a skillet over medium-high heat, add ground beef and season with garlic powder, onion powder, oregano, cumin, paprika, salt, and pepper.

    • Cook until browned and fully cooked, about 8–10 minutes. Drain excess fat if needed. Set aside and keep warm.

  2. Sauté peppers & onions:

    • In the same skillet, heat 1 tbsp olive oil.

    • Add sliced peppers and onions. Season with a little salt and pepper.

    • Cook, stirring occasionally, for about 6–8 minutes, until softened and slightly caramelized.

  3. Warm the pita:

    • Heat pitas in a dry skillet for 30 seconds per side, or wrap in foil and warm in a 350°F oven for 5–10 minutes.

  4. Assemble the gyros:

    • On each warm pita, layer seasoned hamburger, sautéed peppers and onions, a spoonful of tzatziki, and your favorite toppings like tomatoes, lettuce, and feta.

    • Garnish with fresh herbs if desired, fold or wrap, and enjoy!


🥒 Quick Homemade Tzatziki (optional)

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup plain Greek yogurt

  • ½ cucumber, grated and squeezed dry

  • 1 clove garlic, minced

  • 1 tbsp lemon juice

  • 1 tbsp fresh dill (or 1 tsp dried)

  • Salt & pepper to taste

Mix all ingredients together and chill for at least 15 minutes for flavors to develop.

  • Swap ground beef for ground lamb, turkey, or plant-based meat.

  • Add hot sauce or harissa for a spicy kick.

  • Turn it into a gyro bowl: layer rice or couscous, then meat, veggies, tzatziki, and toppings.
