Here’s a delicious and comforting Smothered Pork Chops recipe — tender pork chops simmered in a rich, savory onion gravy. Great with mashed potatoes or rice.


🍽️ Smothered Pork Chops Recipe

🧂 Ingredients:

  • 4 bone-in pork chops (1-inch thick)

  • Salt and pepper, to taste

  • 1 tsp garlic powder

  • 1 tsp onion powder

  • ½ cup all-purpose flour (for dredging)

  • 3 tbsp oil (vegetable or canola)

  • 1 large onion, thinly sliced

  • 3 cloves garlic, minced

  • 2 tbsp butter

  • 2 tbsp flour (for gravy)

  • 2 cups chicken broth

  • ½ tsp thyme (optional)

  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce


🔪 Instructions:

  1. Season the Pork Chops:

    • Pat pork chops dry with paper towels.

    • Season both sides with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder.

  2. Dredge & Brown:

    • Lightly dredge pork chops in flour (shake off excess).

    • Heat 3 tbsp oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.

    • Sear pork chops 3–4 minutes per side until golden brown. Remove and set aside.

  3. Sauté Onions:

    • In the same pan, reduce heat to medium.

    • Add butter and sliced onions. Cook 8–10 minutes until soft and golden.

    • Add garlic and sauté 1 more minute.

  4. Make Gravy:

    • Sprinkle in 2 tbsp flour and cook for 1–2 minutes, stirring constantly.

    • Slowly whisk in chicken broth until smooth.

    • Add Worcestershire sauce and thyme. Let it simmer for 3–5 minutes until slightly thickened.

  5. Smother & Simmer:

    • Return pork chops to the pan.

    • Spoon gravy over the top.

    • Cover and simmer on low for 25–30 minutes until pork chops are tender.

  • Mashed potatoes

  • Rice or buttered noodles

  • Green beans or steamed broccoli

  • Cornbread
