🍤🌶️ Chili Garlic Prawns
Ingredients (2–3 servings):
-
500g (1 lb) prawns or shrimp, peeled & deveined
-
4 cloves garlic, minced
-
2–3 red chilies, finely chopped (or 1 tsp chili flakes for milder heat)
-
2 tbsp soy sauce
-
1 tbsp oyster sauce (optional, for richness)
-
1 tbsp sweet chili sauce (or 1 tsp honey for a touch of sweetness)
-
1 tbsp lime or lemon juice
-
1 tsp sesame oil (optional)
-
2 tbsp vegetable oil (for frying)
-
Salt & black pepper to taste
-
Fresh cilantro or scallions, for garnish
👨🍳 Instructions:
-
Prep the prawns:
-
Pat dry and season lightly with salt and pepper. Set aside.
-
-
Make the sauce:
-
In a small bowl, mix soy sauce, oyster sauce (if using), sweet chili sauce, lime juice, and a splash of water. Set aside.
-
-
Cook garlic & chili:
-
Heat oil in a large pan or wok over medium-high heat.
-
Add garlic and chopped chilies. Sauté for 30 seconds to 1 minute, until fragrant (but not burnt).
-
-
Add prawns:
-
Toss in the prawns and cook for 1–2 minutes per side, or until they turn pink and are just cooked through.
-
-
Add sauce & finish:
-
Pour in the sauce mixture. Stir and let it sizzle for another 1–2 minutes, allowing it to slightly reduce and coat the prawns.
-
Drizzle with sesame oil at the end (optional).
-
-
Garnish & serve:
-
Sprinkle with chopped cilantro or green onions.
-
Serve hot over rice, noodles, or as-is with lime wedges.
-
🔥 Tips:
-
Want extra heat? Add Sriracha, gochujang, or a pinch of cayenne.
-
Try this with tofu, scallops, or chicken strips for variation.
-
Make it saucier by adding a splash of coconut milk for a creamy twist.
