Posted on July 1, 2025
Russian Salad, also known as Olivier Salad, is a creamy, colorful, and hearty cold salad that originated in Russia and has become popular worldwide — especially in Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and parts of South Asia.

🥗 Russian Salad (Olivier Salad)

Overview:
A traditional Russian salad made with diced vegetables, boiled potatoes, eggs, pickles, and sometimes meat (like chicken or ham), all tossed in a creamy mayonnaise-based dressing. It’s rich, tangy, and perfect for celebrations, holidays, or as a side dish.

🧂 Classic Ingredients

  • Boiled potatoes – diced

  • Boiled carrots – diced

  • Green peas – cooked or canned

  • Boiled eggs – chopped

  • Pickles or gherkins – finely chopped (adds tang)

  • Cooked chicken breast or ham (optional) – diced

  • Mayonnaise – the creamy binder

  • Salt & black pepper – to taste

Optional Additions:

  • Apples – for sweetness and crunch

  • Mustard – for extra tang in the dressing

  • Fresh herbs – dill or parsley

🥄 How to Make It

  1. Boil and cool potatoes, carrots, and eggs.

  2. Dice everything into uniform cubes.

  3. Mix all ingredients gently in a large bowl.

  4. Add mayonnaise and seasonings; stir to coat evenly.

  5. Chill for 1–2 hours before serving for best flavor.
