Here’s a soft, fluffy, and easy Turkish Bread (Bazlama or Pide-style) recipe — perfect with dips, kebabs, or just warm with butter. 🇹🇷🍞
🍞 Turkish Bread (Flatbread Style – Bazlama)
🧾 Ingredients (Makes 4–6 breads)
-
500 g (about 3⅓ cups) all-purpose flour
-
7 g (1 packet) instant yeast
-
1 tsp sugar
-
1½ tsp salt
-
300 ml (1¼ cups) warm water
-
2 tbsp plain yogurt (adds softness)
-
2 tbsp olive oil
🥣 Instructions
1. Make the dough:
-
In a large bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let sit 5–10 min until frothy.
-
Add flour, salt, yogurt, and olive oil. Mix until a rough dough forms.
-
Knead for 8–10 minutes (by hand or with a mixer) until smooth and elastic.
-
Cover and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled.
2. Shape the breads:
-
Punch down the dough and divide into 4–6 balls.
-
Roll each into a round about ½ cm (¼ inch) thick — like a thick flatbread.
-
Let rest 10–15 minutes (covered), so they puff better when cooking.
3. Cook the bread:
-
Heat a nonstick skillet or griddle over medium-high heat.
-
Cook each bread 1–2 min per side, until golden spots appear and it puffs.
-
Brush with melted butter or olive oil while hot (optional, but tasty!).
🧄 Optional Toppings
-
Sprinkle with nigella seeds, sesame seeds, or za’atar before cooking.
-
Brush with garlic butter or drizzle with olive oil + herbs after.
🍽️ Serve with:
-
Hummus, baba ghanoush, or labneh
-
Soups (like lentil soup)
-
Grilled meats (kebabs, kofta)
-
Or just plain with tea!
