Posted on June 28, 2025

Street Tacos de Carne Asada are a delicious and simple Mexican dish made with marinated grilled steak, usually served in small corn tortillas and topped with classic garnishes. Here’s a full recipe to make authentic street-style carne asada tacos:

🌮 Street Tacos de Carne Asada Recipe

🔪 Ingredients

For the Carne Asada:

  • 1.5 to 2 lbs flank or skirt steak
  • 1/4 cup orange juice (fresh is best)
  • 2 tbsp lime juice (about 2 limes)
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 4 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1/2 tsp cumin
  • 1/2 tsp chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp paprika
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • Optional: chopped cilantro and 1 jalapeño (for more flavor)

For the Tacos:

  • Corn tortillas (street taco size, about 4-5 inches)
  • White onion, finely chopped
  • Fresh cilantro, chopped
  • Lime wedges
  • Salsa of your choice (salsa verde, roja, or pico de gallo)
  • Optional: avocado slices or guacamole

🔥 Instructions

  1. Marinate the Steak
In a large bowl or ziplock bag, combine all marinade ingredients. Add the steak, seal, and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, preferably 4–8 hours (but no more than 24).
  2. Grill the Steak
Heat a grill or cast iron skillet over high heat. Cook the steak for about 3–5 minutes per side, depending on thickness and desired doneness. Let rest for 5–10 minutes before slicing.
  3. Slice the Meat
Thinly slice the steak against the grain, then chop into small, bite-sized pieces for tacos.
  4. Warm the Tortillas
Heat tortillas on a hot skillet, dry or lightly oiled, about 30 seconds per side until warm and pliable.
  5. Assemble the Tacos
Place chopped carne asada onto each tortilla. Top with chopped onion, cilantro, and a squeeze of lime. Add salsa and extras like avocado if desired.

✅ Tips for Authentic Flavor

  • Use flank or skirt steak — they absorb marinades well and grill quickly.
  • Keep toppings simple — onion, cilantro, lime, and salsa are all you need.
  • Don’t skip the rest time after grilling — it keeps the steak juicy.
