BUTTER CAKE RECIPE

Posted on June 24, 2025
Here’s a classic and super simple Butter Cake Recipe — rich, moist, and buttery with a soft crumb. Perfect as-is or as a base for layer cakes, berries, or glazes. 🍰

🧈 Classic Butter Cake

🛒 Ingredients (for one 8-inch/20cm round or square cake):

  • 1 cup (225g) unsalted butter, softened

  • 1 cup (200g) granulated sugar

  • 4 eggs, room temperature

  • 1¾ cups (220g) all-purpose flour

  • 1½ tsp baking powder

  • ¼ tsp salt

  • ¼ cup (60 ml) milk, room temperature

  • 1½ tsp vanilla extract

👩‍🍳 Instructions:

1. Preheat the oven

  • Set to 175°C (350°F).

  • Grease and line your baking pan.

2. Cream butter and sugar

  • Beat softened butter and sugar together until light and fluffy (about 3–5 minutes).

3. Add eggs

  • Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each.

  • Mix in the vanilla extract.

4. Mix dry ingredients

  • In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.

5. Combine wet and dry

  • Add the dry ingredients in 3 parts, alternating with the milk.

  • Start and end with flour. Mix just until combined — do not overmix.

6. Bake

  • Pour into the prepared pan and smooth the top.

  • Bake for 40–50 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.

7. Cool and serve

  • Let cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a rack to cool completely.

🍽 Serving ideas:

  • Serve plain or dusted with powdered sugar

  • Add a drizzle of lemon glaze or chocolate ganache

  • Slice and serve with whipped cream and berries
