🍽 Serves: 4
🧂 Ingredients:
-
1 lb (450g) ground beef
-
2 tablespoons butter or oil
-
1 small onion, finely chopped (optional)
-
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
-
2 cups beef broth (or water + bouillon cube)
-
1 teaspoon garlic powder
-
1 teaspoon onion powder
-
Salt and black pepper to taste
-
Optional: Worcestershire sauce (1 tsp) for extra depth
🍳 Instructions:
-
Brown the Beef
In a large skillet over medium-high heat, cook the ground beef until browned. Drain excess fat if needed. -
Add Onion (Optional)
Add the chopped onion and cook for 3–4 minutes until soft. -
Make the Roux
Push beef to one side of the pan. On the empty side, melt the butter, then stir in the flour. Cook for about 1 minute to form a roux. -
Add Broth
Slowly pour in the beef broth while stirring. Mix everything together and bring to a simmer. -
Season & Thicken
Add garlic powder, onion powder, salt, pepper, and Worcestershire sauce. Simmer for 5–10 minutes until the gravy thickens. -
Serve
Serve over mashed potatoes, rice, pasta, or even toast or biscuits.
📝 Tips:
-
Want it creamier? Add a splash of milk or cream at the end.
-
For extra flavor, sauté mushrooms along with the onion.
Want a one-pot version with starch (like adding rice or pasta directly)? Let me know!
