French fries

Here’s a classic and foolproof recipe for crispy, golden French fries — just like the ones you crave from restaurants, but made at home!

🍟 Classic French Fries Recipe

Servings: 4

Prep Time: 15 minutes

Soaking Time: 1–2 hours

Cook Time: 20–25 minutes (two-stage frying method)

Ingredients:

  • 4 large Russet potatoes

  • Cold water (for soaking)

  • Vegetable oil (for frying – canola, peanut, or sunflower)

  • Salt, to taste

Instructions:

1. Prep the Potatoes:

  • Peel (optional) and cut potatoes into ¼-inch thick sticks.

  • Place the cut fries in a large bowl of cold water and soak for at least 1 hour (or overnight) to remove excess starch. This helps them get crispy.

2. First Fry (Blanching):

  • Drain and pat the fries completely dry using clean towels or paper towels.

  • Heat oil in a deep fryer or heavy pot to 300°F (150°C).

  • Fry the potatoes in batches for about 5 minutes until soft but not browned.

  • Remove with a slotted spoon and let drain on paper towels. Let them cool completely (or refrigerate for later).

3. Second Fry (Crisping):

  • Increase oil temperature to 375°F (190°C).

  • Fry the blanched fries again, in batches, for 3–5 minutes until golden brown and crispy.

  • Drain on fresh paper towels and immediately season with salt.

✅ Tips:

  • Russet potatoes are ideal because they’re starchy and fry well.

  • Fry in small batches to keep the oil temperature stable.

  • For extra flavor, season with garlic powder, paprika, or truffle salt after frying.

  • Want to bake or air fry them instead? I can give you that version too!
