🍤 Copycat Long John Silver’s Batter
🕒 Prep Time: 10 minutes
🍽️ Servings: Enough for 4–6 pieces of fish or chicken
Ingredients:
-
3/4 cup all-purpose flour
-
2 tablespoons cornstarch
-
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
-
1/4 teaspoon baking powder
-
1/2 teaspoon salt
-
1/4 teaspoon sugar
-
1/4 teaspoon onion powder (optional)
-
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
-
3/4 cup cold water (or club soda for extra crispiness)
-
Oil for frying (vegetable or canola oil)
Instructions:
-
Mix the dry ingredients in a bowl: flour, cornstarch, baking soda, baking powder, salt, sugar, and optional spices.
-
Add cold water or club soda gradually, whisking until smooth. The batter should be a bit thinner than pancake batter — enough to coat but not too thick.
-
Heat oil in a deep fryer or skillet to 350°F (175°C).
-
Dip fish or chicken pieces (patted dry) into the batter, letting excess drip off.
-
Carefully fry in hot oil for 3–4 minutes per side (depending on thickness), until golden and crispy.
-
Drain on paper towels and serve immediately.
✅ Tips for Best Results:
-
Use club soda instead of water for extra puffiness and crispiness.
-
Fry in batches to avoid overcrowding the oil.
-
Double-dip for an extra-thick crust: dip, fry for 30 seconds, remove, re-dip, and fry again until done.
