🍲 Delicious Hamburger and Potato Casserole

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb ground beef

  • 1 small onion, finely chopped

  • 1 tsp salt

  • ½ tsp black pepper

  • ½ tsp garlic powder

  • ½ tsp paprika (optional)

  • 4 medium russet potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced

  • 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom or cream of cheddar soup

  • ½ cup milk

  • 1½ cups shredded cheddar cheese

  • 2 tbsp butter (for dotting on top)

  • Optional: chopped parsley or green onions for garnish

Instructions:

1. Preheat Oven:

  • Preheat to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.

2. Cook the Beef:

  • In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef and chopped onion until beef is browned and onion is tender.

  • Drain excess fat. Season with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and paprika.

3. Prepare the Sauce:

  • In a bowl, whisk together the soup and milk until smooth.

4. Assemble the Casserole:

  • Layer half of the sliced potatoes in the bottom of the baking dish.

  • Top with half of the cooked ground beef.

  • Pour half of the soup mixture over the beef.

  • Sprinkle with half of the shredded cheese.

  • Repeat the layers (potatoes, beef, soup, cheese).

  • Dot the top with small pieces of butter.

5. Bake:

  • Cover with foil and bake for 60 minutes.

  • Remove foil and bake for an additional 20–30 minutes, or until potatoes are tender and the top is golden and bubbly.

📝 Tips & Variations:

  • Add a layer of frozen or steamed mixed veggies for more color and nutrition.

  • Substitute cream of mushroom soup with cream of celery or cheddar for a different twist.

  • Add a pinch of crushed red pepper flakes or a splash of Worcestershire sauce to the beef for extra flavor.

  • Let the casserole rest for 10 minutes before serving to thicken.
