Here’s a traditional and easy recipe for Turkish Bread β€” soft, chewy, and perfect for dipping, wrapping kebabs, or eating warm with butter and cheese.

🍞 Turkish Flatbread (Bazlama or Pide-style)

πŸ•’ Prep Time: 20 min (plus 1 hr rise)

πŸ•’ Cook Time: 10–15 min
🍽️ Makes: 4–6 flatbreads

Ingredients

  • 3 cups (375g) all-purpose flour

  • 1 cup warm water (about 110Β°F / 43Β°C)

  • 2 ΒΌ tsp (1 packet) instant or active dry yeast

  • 1 tbsp sugar

  • 1 tsp salt

  • 3 tbsp plain yogurt (or Greek yogurt)

  • 2 tbsp olive oil (plus more for cooking/brushing)

Instructions

1. Activate Yeast

  • Mix warm water, sugar, and yeast in a bowl. Let sit for 5–10 minutes until frothy (if using active dry yeast).

2. Make the Dough

  • In a large bowl, combine flour and salt.

  • Add the yeast mixture, yogurt, and olive oil.

  • Mix and knead the dough for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic (or use a mixer with a dough hook for 5–6 min).

3. First Rise

  • Cover and let the dough rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.

4. Shape the Bread

  • Divide dough into 4–6 pieces. Roll each into a ball, then flatten into rounds (about 1/4 inch thick).

  • Cover with a towel and let rest for 10 minutes.

5. Cook

  • Heat a skillet or griddle over medium heat.

  • Lightly oil the surface and cook each flatbread 2–3 minutes per side until puffed and golden brown.

  • Optionally, brush warm bread with olive oil or melted butter.

Serving Ideas

  • Serve warm with hummus, tzatziki, or baba ghanoush

  • Use as a wrap for kebabs or grilled meats

  • Dip into soups or stews

Would you like a version baked in the oven (like Turkish pide or ramazan pidesi) or one stuffed with cheese or meat?
