Here’s a crispy, cheesy, and easy Air Fryer Mashed Potato Balls recipe — perfect for using up leftover mashed potatoes and great as a snack, appetizer, or side dish!

🧆 Air Fryer Mashed Potato Balls

🕒 Prep Time: 15–20 minutes

🕒 Cook Time: 10–12 minutes
🍽 Serves: 4–6
🔥 Equipment: Air fryer

Ingredients

  • 2 cups cold mashed potatoes (leftovers work best)

  • 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, or a mix)

  • 1/4 cup cooked bacon bits (optional)

  • 2 green onions, finely chopped

  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder

  • Salt & pepper to taste

For coating:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour

  • 2 large eggs, beaten

  • 1 to 1½ cups breadcrumbs (panko or regular)

Optional Add-ins:

  • 1–2 tbsp grated Parmesan

  • Chopped parsley or chives

  • A pinch of paprika or cayenne (for a kick)

Instructions

1. Make the filling:

  • In a large bowl, combine mashed potatoes, cheese, green onions, bacon (if using), garlic powder, salt, and pepper.

  • Mix well until evenly combined.

2. Form into balls:

  • Scoop about 1–2 tablespoons of the potato mixture and roll into 1½-inch balls.

  • Chill in the fridge for 15–30 minutes (optional but helps them hold shape better).

3. Bread the balls:

  • Set up a breading station: one bowl with flour, one with beaten eggs, and one with breadcrumbs.

  • Roll each ball in flour, then dip in egg, then coat with breadcrumbs. Press gently to adhere.

4. Air fry:

  • Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C) for 3–5 minutes.

  • Lightly spray the potato balls with oil or cooking spray.

  • Place them in a single layer in the air fryer basket (work in batches if needed).

  • Air fry for 10–12 minutes, shaking halfway through, until golden brown and crispy.

5. Serve:

  • Serve hot with dipping sauces like ranch, sour cream, sriracha mayo, or marinara.

✅ Tips

  • For extra crispiness, double-coat the balls (egg + breadcrumbs twice).

  • Make ahead and refrigerate or freeze before air frying.

  • Use seasoned breadcrumbs for added flavor.
