Posted on May 23, 2025
Here’s a crave-worthy recipe for Crispy Mozzarella Sticks — golden on the outside, melty inside, and paired with both a zesty marinara sauce and a cool creamy dip. They’re perfect for parties, snacks, or game day.

🧀 Crispy Mozzarella Sticks with Marinara Sauce & Creamy Dip

🕒 Total Time: ~45 minutes (including chilling)

🍽️ Serves: 4–6

🧾 Ingredients

For the Mozzarella Sticks:

  • 12 mozzarella cheese sticks (string cheese)

  • 2 eggs, beaten

  • 1/4 cup milk

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour

  • 1 1/2 cups breadcrumbs (preferably Italian-seasoned or panko)

  • 1/2 cup Parmesan cheese, finely grated

  • 1 tsp garlic powder

  • 1/2 tsp dried oregano or Italian seasoning

  • Salt & pepper, to taste

  • Oil for frying (vegetable or canola)

For the Marinara Dipping Sauce:

  • 1 tbsp olive oil

  • 1 clove garlic, minced

  • 1 can (400g/14 oz) crushed tomatoes

  • 1/2 tsp sugar

  • 1/2 tsp basil or oregano

  • Salt & pepper, to taste

For the Creamy Dip (Optional):

  • 1/2 cup sour cream or Greek yogurt

  • 2 tbsp mayonnaise

  • 1 tsp lemon juice

  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder

  • Salt and chopped herbs (parsley, chives)

👨‍🍳 Instructions

1. Prepare and Chill the Sticks

  1. Cut mozzarella sticks in half (if desired for smaller bites).

  2. Set up 3 bowls: one for flour, one for egg + milk, one for breadcrumbs mixed with Parmesan, garlic powder, herbs, salt & pepper.

  3. Dredge each stick: flour → egg → breadcrumbs. For extra crunch, double dip (egg + breadcrumbs again).

  4. Place on a tray and freeze for at least 30 minutes (this prevents cheese from leaking out while frying).

2. Make the Marinara Sauce

  1. Heat olive oil in a small saucepan.

  2. Sauté garlic for 30 seconds, then add crushed tomatoes, sugar, herbs, salt & pepper.

  3. Simmer for 10–15 minutes, stirring occasionally. Adjust seasoning to taste.

3. Make the Creamy Dip

  • Mix all ingredients in a small bowl and chill until ready to serve.

4. Fry the Mozzarella Sticks

  1. Heat oil in a deep skillet or pot to 350°F (175°C).

  2. Fry 4–5 sticks at a time for 1–2 minutes, until golden brown.

  3. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.

5. Serve

  • Plate mozzarella sticks with warm marinara and chilled creamy dip.

  • Garnish with fresh herbs or a sprinkle of Parmesan.

🔁 Variations

  • Baked version: Bake at 400°F (200°C) for 8–10 minutes, turning halfway.

  • Air fryer: Spray with oil and air fry at 390°F (200°C) for 6–8 minutes.

  • Use pepper jack or cheddar sticks for a flavor twist.
