🍅 Fried Green Tomatoes (Southern Style)
🔸 Ingredients

3–4 medium green (unripe) tomatoes, sliced ¼-inch thick

Salt (to draw out moisture)

½ cup all-purpose flour

2 large eggs

¼ cup buttermilk (or regular milk)

½ cup cornmeal
-
½ cup breadcrumbs (panko or regular)

½ tsp garlic powder
-
½ tsp paprika or cayenne (optional, for spice)

Freshly ground black pepper

Oil, for frying (vegetable or peanut oil)
🔹 Instructions

Prep the tomatoes:

Slice tomatoes and lay them out on paper towels.

Sprinkle with salt and let them sit for 15–20 minutes to draw out moisture.

Pat dry.

Set up a breading station:

Bowl 1: Flour, with a bit of black pepper.

Bowl 2: Eggs + buttermilk, whisked together.

Bowl 3: Cornmeal, breadcrumbs, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper.

Bread the tomatoes:

Dredge each slice in flour, then dip in the egg mixture, and finally coat in the cornmeal-breadcrumb mix.

Press the coating on firmly for extra crispiness.

Fry:

Heat ½ inch of oil in a cast iron skillet or heavy pan over medium heat (350°F / 175°C).

Fry tomatoes in batches, about 2–3 minutes per side, until golden brown.

Drain on paper towels.

Serve hot, with a creamy dipping sauce like ranch, Cajun aioli, or remoulade.
