Here’s a classic Homemade Sloppy Joes recipe β€” quick, easy, and way better than anything from a can! Perfect for weeknight dinners or feeding a hungry crowd.

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb (450 g) ground beef (or ground turkey)

  • 1 small onion, finely chopped

  • 1/2 green bell pepper, finely chopped (optional)

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 3/4 cup ketchup

  • 1 tbsp tomato paste (optional for richness)

  • 2 tsp yellow mustard

  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

  • 1 tbsp brown sugar

  • Salt and black pepper to taste

  • Burger buns (toasted)

  • Optional toppings: pickles, shredded cheese, coleslaw


Instructions:

  1. Cook the beef:
    In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned. Drain excess fat if needed.

  2. Add vegetables:
    Stir in onion, bell pepper, and garlic. Cook for 3–4 minutes until softened.

  3. Add sauce ingredients:
    Stir in ketchup, tomato paste, mustard, Worcestershire, and brown sugar. Season with salt and pepper.

  4. Simmer:
    Reduce heat and simmer uncovered for 8–10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the mixture thickens.

  5. Serve:
    Spoon over toasted buns and serve hot!
