🍤 Crispy Fried Shrimp
Ingredients:
-
1 lb large shrimp, peeled and deveined (tails on or off)
-
1 cup buttermilk (or regular milk + 1 tsp vinegar/lemon juice)
-
1 cup all-purpose flour
-
1/2 cup cornmeal (optional, for extra crunch)
-
1 teaspoon paprika
-
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
-
1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
-
Salt and pepper to taste
-
Oil for frying (vegetable, peanut, or canola)
Instructions:
-
Prep the Shrimp:
Rinse and pat shrimp dry. Place in a bowl with buttermilk. Let sit for 10–15 minutes. -
Prepare Breading:
In a separate bowl, mix flour, cornmeal (if using), paprika, garlic powder, cayenne, salt, and pepper. -
Coat the Shrimp:
Remove shrimp from the buttermilk, let excess drip off, then dredge in the flour mixture. Press the coating on lightly so it sticks. -
Heat Oil:
Heat 2–3 inches of oil in a deep pan or fryer to 350°F (175°C). -
Fry Shrimp:
Fry shrimp in batches (don’t overcrowd the pan) for 2–3 minutes or until golden brown and crispy. Drain on paper towels. -
Serve:
Serve hot with lemon wedges and your favorite dipping sauce (cocktail sauce, spicy mayo, or remoulade).
Optional Twist: Toss with a little Cajun seasoning or drizzle with honey sriracha for a flavor upgrade.
