cheesy potato balls

Posted on April 28, 2025
Cheesy potato balls are a delicious, crispy snack made from mashed potatoes filled with gooey melted cheese. They’re great as party appetizers or comfort food. Here’s a simple recipe to make them:

Cheesy Potato Balls Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups mashed potatoes (cooled, not too soft)

  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese (or small cubes of mozzarella)

  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan (optional, for extra flavor)

  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder

  • 1/2 tsp black pepper

  • Salt to taste

  • 1/4 cup chopped green onions or herbs (optional)

  • 1 egg (for coating)

  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour (for coating)

  • 1 cup breadcrumbs (panko or regular)

  • Oil for deep frying

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the mixture:

    • In a bowl, combine the mashed potatoes, garlic powder, pepper, salt, Parmesan (if using), and herbs.

    • Mix until well combined. Chill the mixture if it’s too soft to handle.

  2. Form the balls:

    • Take a small portion of potato mixture, flatten it in your palm, place a cube or pinch of mozzarella in the center, and shape it into a ball. Repeat with the rest.

  3. Coat the balls:

    • Roll each ball in flour, then dip into the beaten egg, and finally coat with breadcrumbs.

  4. Fry:

    • Heat oil in a deep pan over medium heat. Fry the balls until golden brown and crispy (about 2–3 minutes).

    • Drain on paper towels.

Tips:

  • Freeze the balls for 15 minutes before frying to help them hold their shape.

  • You can bake or air fry them at 400°F (200°C) until golden, if you prefer a lighter version.
