Chocolate and Caramel Layered Dessert Recipe

Ingredients:

For the Crust:

  • 1 1/2 cups graham cracker crumbs (about 10-12 graham crackers)
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted

For the Cream Cheese Layer:

  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 cups heavy whipping cream
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar (for whipped cream)

For the Caramel Layer:

  • 1/2 cup caramel sauce (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream (to thin the caramel)

For the Chocolate Layer:

  • 1 1/2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips (or milk chocolate chips, if preferred)
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream

For Garnish:

  • Chopped nuts (optional, such as pecans or walnuts)
  • Chocolate shavings or chocolate drizzle (optional)
  • Caramel drizzle (optional)

Instructions:

Step 1: Prepare the Crust

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a medium-sized bowl, combine the graham cracker crumbs, granulated sugar, and melted butter. Mix until the crumbs are evenly coated with the butter.
  3. Press the mixture into the bottom of a 9×9-inch square baking dish (or a similar-sized dish) to form an even crust.
  4. Bake for about 10 minutes, then remove from the oven and let it cool completely. You can refrigerate it to speed up the cooling process.

Step 2: Make the Cream Cheese Layer

  1. In a large bowl, beat the softened cream cheese until smooth using a hand mixer or stand mixer.
  2. Gradually add the powdered sugar and vanilla extract and continue to mix until fully incorporated and smooth.
  3. In a separate bowl, whip the heavy whipping cream with the 1/4 cup powdered sugar until stiff peaks form (about 2-3 minutes).
  4. Gently fold the whipped cream into the cream cheese mixture until smooth and well-combined. Be careful not to deflate the whipped cream.

Step 3: Make the Caramel Layer

  1. In a small saucepan over low heat, combine the caramel sauce and heavy cream. Stir occasionally until the mixture is smooth and warmed through. You can also microwave the caramel for 20-30 seconds if using store-bought caramel sauce.
  2. Set the caramel aside to cool slightly before using.

Step 4: Make the Chocolate Layer

  1. In a microwave-safe bowl, heat the chocolate chips and heavy cream in 20-second intervals, stirring after each interval, until the chocolate is completely melted and smooth.
  2. Allow the chocolate to cool slightly (but not harden) before assembling the layers.

Step 5: Assemble the Dessert

  1. Once the crust has cooled, spread the cream cheese layer evenly over the crust.
  2. Drizzle the caramel sauce over the cream cheese layer in an even layer.
  3. Pour the chocolate layer over the caramel, spreading it gently into an even layer.
  4. Chill the dessert in the refrigerator for at least 4 hours, or preferably overnight, to allow the layers to set and the flavors to meld together.

Step 6: Garnish and Serve

  1. Once the dessert has chilled, garnish with chopped nuts, chocolate shavings, and an extra drizzle of caramel sauce for a beautiful and delicious finish.
  2. Slice into squares and serve!

Tips & Variations:

  • Make it gluten-free: Use gluten-free graham crackers or replace them with ground oats or crushed gluten-free cookies for the crust.
  • Caramel homemade: If you prefer homemade caramel, simply cook 1/2 cup brown sugar, 1/4 cup butter, and 1/4 cup heavy cream over medium heat, stirring until smooth and thickened.
  • Chocolate variations: You can use white chocolate chips or dark chocolate for the top layer for a different flavor profile.
  • Make-ahead dessert: This dessert is perfect for making ahead of time, especially for parties or holiday gatherings. It can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days.

Chocolate and Caramel Layered Dessert is the perfect combination of creamy, rich, and sweet layers that are sure to impress anyone who takes a bite! With its smooth cream cheese layer, gooey caramel, and silky chocolate topping, it’s a decadent treat that’s hard to resist. Enjoy!
