Super Bread is a fluffy, soft, and flavorful homemade bread that’s easy to make and perfect for any occasion. Whether you’re making sandwiches, toast, or just want a slice of fresh, warm bread, this recipe will give you the perfect loaf.

Here’s a Super Bread Recipe that will make you want to bake bread every week!

Super Bread Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • 1 1/4 cups warm water (around 110°F/43°C)
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour (plus extra for kneading)
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter, softened (plus extra for greasing)
  • 1/4 cup milk (whole or 2%)
  • 1 egg (for egg wash, optional)

Instructions:

Step 1: Activate the Yeast
  1. Activate the yeast: In a small bowl, mix the warm water, sugar, and yeast. Stir gently and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes, until it becomes frothy. If the mixture doesn’t bubble or foam, the yeast may be expired, and you’ll need to try with fresh yeast.
Step 2: Make the Dough
  1. Combine dry ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour and salt.
  2. Add the wet ingredients: Once the yeast mixture is ready, add it to the flour mixture along with the butter and milk. Stir until the dough begins to come together.
  3. Knead the dough: Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes, or until the dough is smooth and elastic. You can also use a stand mixer with a dough hook to knead the dough on low speed for 5-7 minutes.
Step 3: First Rise
  1. Let the dough rise: Grease a large bowl with a bit of butter or oil, and place the dough inside. Cover the bowl with a clean kitchen towel or plastic wrap. Let the dough rise in a warm place for 1 to 1 1/2 hours, or until it has doubled in size.
Step 4: Shape the Dough
  1. Punch down the dough: After the first rise, punch the dough down to release air bubbles.
  2. Shape the dough: Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface again and shape it into a loaf. To do this, flatten the dough slightly, then fold in the edges toward the center and roll it up tightly, pinching the seam to seal it.
Step 5: Second Rise
  1. Prepare the loaf pan: Grease a standard 9×5-inch loaf pan with butter or line it with parchment paper.
  2. Place the dough in the pan: Place the shaped dough into the prepared pan. Cover with a towel or plastic wrap and let it rise for another 30-45 minutes, or until the dough has risen just above the lip of the pan.
Step 6: Bake the Bread
  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) while the dough rises.
  2. Egg wash (optional): If you want a shiny, golden crust, beat the egg and brush it lightly over the top of the dough before baking.
  3. Bake the bread: Bake the loaf for about 30-35 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the bread sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.
  4. Cool the bread: Let the bread cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely.
Step 7: Slice and Serve
  1. Once cooled, slice the bread into thick, soft slices and enjoy. It’s perfect for making sandwiches, toasting with butter, or just eating with jam.

Tips:

  • Flour variations: You can replace a portion of the all-purpose flour with whole wheat flour for a healthier loaf. Start by substituting about 1/4 of the flour and gradually increase the amount if desired.
  • Add-ins: For added flavor, you can fold in ingredients like garlic powder, cheese, herbs, or raisins during the kneading process.
  • Bread storage: Store leftover bread in an airtight container or a bread box at room temperature for up to 3-4 days. It also freezes well for up to 3 months.
  • For a crispier crust: Place a shallow pan of water at the bottom of the oven while baking. The steam will create a crispier crust.

This Super Bread is incredibly versatile and perfect for every meal. It’s soft, flavorful, and a great homemade option to have on hand for sandwiches, breakfast toast, or just to enjoy with butter.

Would you like to try experimenting with other bread variations, like focaccia or sourdough?
