Loaded Steak Tostadas

Posted on March 1, 2025
Loaded Steak Tostadas are a delicious and satisfying meal, combining the crispiness of tostadas with the savory flavors of marinated steak, fresh toppings, and plenty of cheese and sauces! Here’s a recipe you can try:

Loaded Steak Tostadas

Ingredients:

For the Steak:

  • 1 lb flank steak or skirt steak (or any cut you prefer)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon lime juice
  • 2 teaspoons chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

For the Tostadas:

  • 6-8 tostada shells (store-bought or homemade)

For the Toppings:

  • 1 cup refried beans (optional, but adds creaminess)
  • 1 avocado, sliced or mashed
  • 1 cup shredded lettuce or cabbage
  • 1/2 red onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup diced tomatoes
  • 1/2 cup crumbled queso fresco (or shredded Mexican cheese blend)
  • 1/4 cup cilantro, chopped
  • Sour cream or Mexican crema, for drizzling
  • Hot sauce (optional)
  • Lime wedges (for serving)

Instructions:

  1. Marinate the Steak:

    • In a bowl, combine the olive oil, lime juice, chili powder, cumin, garlic powder, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
    • Rub the marinade all over the steak, cover, and let it marinate for at least 30 minutes (or up to 2 hours in the fridge for deeper flavor).
  2. Cook the Steak:

    • Heat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, cook the steak for about 3-4 minutes per side, depending on thickness, until it reaches your desired level of doneness (medium-rare is typically 130°F internal temperature, medium is 140°F).
    • Remove from heat and let the steak rest for 5 minutes before slicing thinly against the grain.
  3. Prepare the Tostadas:

    • If you’re using store-bought tostada shells, heat them in the oven according to the package instructions to get them crispy (usually about 5-7 minutes at 375°F). If you’re making homemade tostadas, fry corn tortillas in hot oil until crispy, then drain on paper towels.
  4. Assemble the Tostadas:

    • Start by spreading a thin layer of refried beans (if using) onto each tostada shell.
    • Layer the sliced steak evenly on top of the beans.
    • Add a handful of shredded lettuce or cabbage for crunch.
    • Top with slices of avocado, diced tomatoes, red onions, and crumbled queso fresco.
    • Drizzle with sour cream or Mexican crema and sprinkle with fresh cilantro.
  5. Garnish and Serve:

    • Optionally, add a drizzle of hot sauce or a squeeze of lime juice for extra flavor.
    • Serve immediately while the tostadas are crispy!

Tips:

  • For extra flavor: You can grill or sauté your veggies like onions and peppers before adding them to the tostada for a caramelized sweetness.
  • Make it spicier: Add sliced jalapeños or a spicy salsa on top!
  • For extra crunch: You can sprinkle a bit of crushed tortilla chips on top of the toppings before serving.

These Loaded Steak Tostadas are super customizable, so feel free to adjust the toppings or fillings to your taste! Let me know how it goes if you make them!
