Honey Grilled Shrimp with Spicy Seasoning

Ingredients:

  • For the Shrimp:

    • 1 lb large shrimp, peeled and deveined (tail-on or off, your choice)
    • 2 tablespoons olive oil
    • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • For the Marinade and Glaze:

    • 2 tablespoons honey
    • 1 tablespoon sriracha sauce (adjust based on how spicy you want it)
    • 1 tablespoon soy sauce (low-sodium)
    • 1 tablespoon lime juice (freshly squeezed)
    • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
    • 1 teaspoon paprika (smoked paprika adds extra flavor)
    • ½ teaspoon ground cumin
    • ½ teaspoon onion powder
    • ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional, for extra heat)
    • 1 tablespoon fresh cilantro, chopped (optional, for garnish)

Instructions:

1. Prepare the Shrimp:

  • If using frozen shrimp, thaw them completely, then pat them dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture.
  • In a large mixing bowl, drizzle the olive oil over the shrimp and toss them to coat evenly. Season with salt and black pepper.

2. Make the Honey Spicy Glaze:

  • In a small bowl, whisk together the honey, sriracha sauce, soy sauce, lime juice, garlic powder, paprika, cumin, onion powder, and cayenne pepper (if using).
  • Taste and adjust the sweetness or spiciness according to your preference. Add more honey if you want it sweeter or more sriracha if you want more heat.

3. Marinate the Shrimp:

  • Pour about two-thirds of the glaze over the shrimp and toss well to coat. Let it marinate for 15-20 minutes (you can marinate for up to an hour if you have the time).

4. Preheat the Grill:

  • Preheat your grill to medium-high heat (around 375-400°F (190-200°C)).
  • If you’re using a grill pan, heat it over medium-high heat on the stovetop.

5. Grill the Shrimp:

  • Thread the shrimp onto skewers (if using wooden skewers, soak them in water for 10 minutes before using to prevent burning).
  • Place the shrimp on the grill and cook for 2-3 minutes per side. The shrimp should turn pink and opaque when done.
  • While grilling, brush the shrimp with the remaining honey glaze to enhance the flavor and keep them moist.

6. Serve:

  • Remove the shrimp from the grill and discard the skewers.
  • Garnish with freshly chopped cilantro for a fresh touch.

Serving Suggestions:

  • Serve your Honey Grilled Shrimp with steamed jasmine rice or a refreshing cucumber salad to balance the heat.
  • Pair with grilled veggies or toss the shrimp on top of a green salad for a lighter meal.
  • Add a wedge of lime for an extra burst of citrus.

Tips for the Best Shrimp:

  • Don’t overcook: Shrimp cook very quickly. Once they turn pink and opaque, they’re done. Overcooking them will make them rubbery.
  • Adjust the heat: Add more or less sriracha or cayenne pepper depending on your spice preference. You can also use chili garlic sauce for a slightly different flavor.
  • Marinate for maximum flavor: If possible, marinate the shrimp for up to an hour so they soak up all the spicy-sweet goodness.

This Honey Grilled Shrimp with Spicy Seasoning is a perfect balance of heat, sweetness, and savory flavor. It’s quick, easy, and sure to be a hit at your next BBQ or dinner! Let me know if you decide to give it a try or need more tips!
