Lemon Butter Fish Fillet

Posted on February 26, 2025
Lemon Butter Fish Fillet sounds so light, flavorful, and perfect for a quick dinner. Here’s a simple recipe that combines the richness of butter with the zesty brightness of lemon, which complements the delicate fish fillets perfectly!

Lemon Butter Fish Fillet Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 4 fish fillets (white fish like tilapia, cod, or sole work best)
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter (divided)
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1/2 cup chicken or vegetable broth (or white wine for extra flavor)
  • Juice of 1 lemon (plus zest if you like a stronger lemon flavor)
  • 1 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1/2 tsp paprika or cayenne pepper (optional for a little kick)

Directions:

1. Prep the Fish:

  1. Pat the fish fillets dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture. This helps them sear better.
  2. Season both sides with salt, pepper, and paprika (if using).

2. Cook the Fish:

  1. Heat a large skillet over medium heat and add the olive oil.
  2. Once the oil is hot, add the fish fillets. Cook for 3-4 minutes on each side, depending on the thickness of the fillets, until golden brown and cooked through (the fish should easily flake with a fork). Once cooked, remove the fish from the skillet and set aside on a plate.

3. Make the Lemon Butter Sauce:

  1. In the same skillet, add 1 tablespoon of butter. Allow it to melt, then add the minced garlic. Sauté for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
  2. Pour in the broth (or white wine) and bring it to a simmer. Scrape any bits from the bottom of the pan for extra flavor. Let the sauce cook down for 2-3 minutes.
  3. Stir in the remaining tablespoon of butter, lemon juice, and zest. Continue to simmer for another minute, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens slightly.

4. Combine and Serve:

  1. Return the fish fillets to the skillet, spooning the lemon butter sauce over the top.
  2. Let the fish simmer in the sauce for another minute or two to absorb the flavors.
  3. Garnish with chopped fresh parsley and a little extra lemon zest if desired.

Serve With:

  • Sides: Serve this with roasted vegetables, rice, or a fresh salad for a light, well-rounded meal.
  • Optional Extras: Add some capers or sliced almonds on top for extra texture and flavor.

Tips:

  • If you’re using a firmer fish (like cod or halibut), you might need to cook it for a bit longer.
  • Feel free to add a splash of heavy cream to the sauce for a richer, creamy version of this dish!

This Lemon Butter Fish Fillet is fresh, bright, and super flavorful! It’s also a quick and easy dish that doesn’t require too much time or effort. How do you like your fish cooked—more on the crispy side, or do you prefer it softer?
